Abstract:
Based on conventional observation, satellite and Doppler radar data, a supercell storm in northwest of Hubei that happened on the afternoon of 27 April 2016 was analyzed. The results show that the upper trough, warm moist air in the lower atmosphere and cold dry air in the upper and strong vertical wind shear provided a very good environmental condition. The trumpet-shaped topography of the Hanjiang River valley, the circulation of land and sea winds, the mesoscale surface convergence line, the disturbance produced by warm moist airflow of low layer and the cold pool outflow resulted in a strong enhancement of the supercell storm. The main characteristics of Doppler weather radar were meso-cyclone, bounded weak echo region, typical hook echo, etc. that were supercell storm features. Three body scatter signature (TBSS) and the side-lobe echo of large hail appeared at the same time. The strong vertical wind shear made the thunderstorm more organized and lasted longer, which is beneficial to the severe convective weather.
