Abstract:
This paper reviews the research progress of convective weather nowcasting techniques for aviation meteorology in China since 2010, focusing on the application and existing problems of different convective weather nowcasting methods in aviation operational forecasting, including extrapolation forecasting, numerical model forecasting, and multi-method fusion. The multi-scale tracking radar echoes by cross-correlation (MTREC) method has been well applied in convective nowcasting, which enables relatively early and accurate prediction of the movement trends of convective weather systems. The Rapid Update Cycle (RUC) system with radar data for civil aviation has been developed and continuously updated. Techniques such as deep learning, fusion of extrapolation and numerical models, and multi-source observation data fusion are gradually being applied in weather nowcasting for aviation.
