Abstract
Based on DMSP/OLS night light data, 30 m high-resolution land use data and MODIS remote sensing data of surface temperature in Chongqing since 1992, this paper studied the relationship between urban development and heat island intensity in Chongqing and the spatial distribution of urban heat island. The results show that there is a significant positive correlation between Chongqing urban development index and heat island intensity index. The spatial distribution of urban heat island is the strongest in the west of Chongqing, followed by the northeast of Chongqing and the weakest in the southeast of Chongqing. The seasonal characteristic is that the heat island effect is stronger in summer half year with the largest area, while the heat island effect is weaker and smaller in winter half year.
